Why Your Business Card Should Be Credit-Card Sized

Have you ever noticed how business cards are these long skinny things? Well, the other day I was doing some business card design.

I’m here today so I can tell you why you should use a credit card size instead of a business card size.

To start off, a business card is 3.5 inches to 2 inches. A credit card is 3.37 inches to 2.125 inches. Once you have that in mind, here we go.

  1. Credit card sizes aren’t all that different from standard sizes. Really. And I’m being totally honest with you here, but there is only a .2 difference (almost) on each side!
  2. Credit card sizes are more comfortable. This is really just personal opinion, but I think that business cards are all long and skinny, while credit card sizes are like golden ratio to me (although its not).
  3. Credit card sizes fit inside money clips. I mean, I’m one of the minimalistic people who use a money clip. Money clips have a clip for money, and a channel (most of the time) for cards. I think I would want to store my business cards on my channel side.
  4. Credit card sizes fit inside credit-card slots. No, not the slots for your bank accounts, but credit card sized cards will fit inside those little pockets inside leather wallets and the like.
  5. Credit card sizes are just somehow more imaginative. Take two pieces of paper, and cut one at credit card size, and the other at business card size. Which one do you like better?

Regardless of the one you pick, I still personally think that credit-card sizes are the way to go.
