Agree with you 100%. For me, design is very important. Sometimes when I enter a website and see horrible colours, bad layout and most importantly "cheesy" design, I immediately click "back'' without even looking at what's written.
Continue like that, you'll go far...

This was an amazing post...and one that I strongly agree with.
For example, if I happen to stumble across a website that has great blog posts, but horrible design, I wouldn't ever find out about the posts...I simply close out of the website!
If they can't make it worthwhile, why should I spend time on the site? It sounds rude, but it's simply true.
Also, a nice website redesign like yours would make things easier to use, thus more students might use them...
Many great points were made in that post. I look forward to continue reading your blog!

This is a sad fact I discovered after having to navigate a handful of government sites and jump through all sorts of hoops in order to go on a business trip to another country: if the user has no choice (about what product to use) a good user interface is pretty much out of the question.
Since it's not the students who have to decide whether to shell out $50,000 a year for Gaggle (hehe, "gag"...), Gaggle just worries about convincing the school districts that it's "safe", not convincing the students that it's usable.
Since you can't access your library's (or any other particular library's) information through a better catalog system, they don't worry about making it work right (as long as it still *kinda* works). And not many people have the luxury of picking what library they'll use based on ther catalog system, if only because the choice is severely limited by what's local...
If you were the only person in the world selling Lamborghinis, you could sell 'em from behind a McDonalds if that was convenient for you.
